Why is it red, white, and blue? Who made the flag? When? What does the flag mean to you? In what ways do American’s display the flag to show their patriotism? Why can’t you burn the flag? What do you do if you have an old flag and it needs to be discarded? How come the flag can’t touch the ground? o 2. The Star Spangled Banner:
Who wrote the Star Spangled Banner? When? Under what conditions was it written? When did it become the national anthem? How/why does the Anthem inspire patriotism? o 3. The Pledge of Allegiance:
When was it written? Why do you think it is recited in school daily? What does the Pledge mean to you? Do you stand for the pledge? Why or why not? What signal are you sending if you sit for the Pledge? Why is it appropriate to stop what you’re doing when the Pledge is being recited? What are you pledging? o 4. Washington DC, our Nation’s Capitol:
What was the original capitol? When did DC become the capitol? What monuments are there? How does the capitol/monuments inspire patriotism?
You must ALSO researchTWOpatriotic songs: Patriotic Songs: Choose one “military” patriotic song and one other to research and report on. You may research them at school, buy you may have to listen to them at home. You may bring headphones with you to the lab to LISTEN TO PATRIOTIC SONGS, not to listen to OTHER personal music.

*What is the song about? How or why does the song inspire patriotism?
*Who wrote the song? When?
*What colony or state is the song from?
